Deeta Nakshband, a Connecticut physician is attacked by a local surgeon while on duty in the hospital. Her friend, Janelle Jefferson, has similar experiences in Miami. Both of them become aware of an increasingly violent world as acts of isolated brutality escalate into civil unrest. They grapple with their paranoia as family members and coworkers become dangerously unpredictable. Worldwide, military units go rogue, war begins in Korea and cities implode as people slaughter each other in the streets. Martial law is declared in an attempt to maintain order. People are arrested, detainment camps are set up and interrogations end with tragic consequences as modern civilization crumbles. Deeta and Janelle band together with family friends and coworkers to save each other and find sanctuary.

At the 7% point, I wanted to stop reading this book. The point where it talks about a 6 year old being raped and murdered by her 12 year old brother and his friends. But to add to that this isn't the only scene of rape in this book. To describe how this book works, here is the best I can give you. After that scene with the young child, I skimmed through this book in hopes it would get better. It did not. There is a scene where one of the main characters, JJ and two of her co-workers escape a building where people are being murdered and they witness a woman being raped. What do they do? They stop in the parking lot and start laughing about the outfits they are wearing. So, while people are going crazy, these characters still go to work, a job interview, and restaurants to eat. Oh it gets better (sarcasm), apparently, a huge portion of this book is about the characters doing SEAL/ hard core workout regiments, there are racist undertones about "white people" and further in the book it gets deeply rooted towards those of the Muslim faith. What is making people crazy? Hormone induced meat. Who is Immune? Vegetarians.
I don't say this lightly, and really don't like to leave a review like this but here is the truth. If you have any morality or decency, do not read this book. It takes a lot to make me feel sickened but this book did just that.

This was for my neice. According to her she is enjoying making the goodies in the kit
Just couldn't put it down! It will have you on the edge of your seat wanting to see what happens next!
Very quick read and hard to put down. Great new author. Those with medical backgrounds will love the side stories. Characters were diverse and richly developed. Read this book!
The story is top notch but often sentences would start over in the middle and words would repeat themselves. The story really is great and I will definitely seek out more books by Ian Page.
First-time author Ian Page gives a fresh take on apocalyptic survival. He uses current environmental concerns to catapult his characters into chaos while staying grounded in reality. The storytelling is fluid, and the characters feel like individuals. At multiple points the author uses music to emphasize situations which creates a pseudo soundtrack. This gave the characters individuality that the readers could uniquely connect with. I particularly like the subtext that in times of need cultural differences can be the glue that binds us together.
If you want something fresh. If you want something a little less “Zombie” and a little more Survival. If you want something you won’t know the ending of after the first few pages. Pick up this book.
A fresh take on the end as we know it. Interesting characters that are different from your normal disaster story. Well written, the book flows well. While not a vegan, this one made me think about it. )
The story itself was engaging and well thought out but there were a lot of mistakes throughout with grammar and continuity. Also, there was way too much detail in some areas such as fighting techniques.
